Issue with Dynamic text in Textbox

Hi, I am trying to have a text with some dynamic inputs in between. Those Dynamic Inputs I am adding from measures. The problem is some of the measures are not working properly.  Please note, some measure are working properly.

First when I am typing the measure name in the value section, the exact name is not appearing. Then when I am selecting the nearest match, it is not giving the correct result. It is actually ignoring the simple filter condition which I have inside the measure!
My data model is big and there are many tables, joins and measures (300+) I checked in Q&A section and added some synonyms also for that measure still no luck.

Anyone faced similar issues and how to resolve that?

Thanks

Hi samratpbi,

We appreciate your inquiry on the Microsoft Fabric Community Forum.

Based on my understanding, the dynamic value feature in text boxes depends on the Q&A natural language engine in Power BI. In large models with many tables or measures, the Q&A index may fail to detect certain measures or may ignore filter conditions due to ambiguity, cache issues, or poor Q&A configuration.

Please follow the steps below, which may help to resolve the issue:

  1. Update to the latest Power BI Desktop, as new releases often include fixes for Q&A and text box integration.
  2. Re-initialise Q&A by adding a temporary Q&A visual and completing the Q&A setup. This refreshes the natural language index used by text boxes.
  3. Clear local caches by navigating to File > Options and settings > Options > Global > Data Load → Clear cache, then restart Power BI. This often resolves measure not found issues.
  4. For large models, use Q&A setup to exclude unnecessary fields and consolidate your measures in a dedicated Measures table.

If you require inline formatting such as bold numbers within sentences, a possible workaround is to insert multiple Value placeholders in the text box and format each one individually. Alternatively, you may concatenate values into a single DAX measure if consistent formatting is acceptable.

Hi, Thanks for your message. I updated my Power BI version and also removed some of my tables from Q&A. However after your post, I removed most of the tables from Q&A, then cleared Data cache,  Q&A cache. Restarted Power BI and restarted my machine also 🙂 and voila! it started working. Thanks for your suggestions.

@samratpbi I generally create a new measure and use that in my Text boxes. Is that what you are doing or are you trying to use the "smart narrative" feature of the text box?

DAX is easy, CALCULATE makes DAX hard...

Hi @Greg_Deckler  Thanks for your reply. I am also doing the same; I created new measure and trying to use that in a text box. But when in the value section, trying to add, its not detecting some of my measures (those measures working perfectly fine in a card)

Thanks

@samratpbi I generally have the best luck by specifying "[Measure Name]" in my Value area and then clicking on it once it is underlined. However, as I said, I almost never use Textboxes for this and instead use a Card visual. So if I wanted to say, "The maximum value for xyz is 40 as of 10/2/2025", I wouldn't do that in a textbox, I would create a measure:

Measure = "The maximum value for xyz is " & [Max Value Measure] & " as of " & TODAY()

Then just plop that in a Card visual and you don't have to worry about the janky Textbox interface.

Hi @Greg_Deckler  thanks for your reply. I need different formatting for different parts of the text. e.g.

"as of 10/02, product value is 12345, STLY product value is 12367." Something like that.

I can put multiple buttons side by side and have different formatting for those, but that would not be very good implementation and allignment is not very seemless.

Would appriciate if you have any other suggessions. (noticed there is a PBI certified HTML textbox custom visual, however trying to avoid custom visual)
