How to filter by specific previous months (not several months combined)

In several data cards, I have a relative date filter setup to show data in the last 1 calendar month i.e. the previous month. However I am wondering if there is a straight forward way to be able to jump back in time to show data from specific months. For example if it is now June, a way to be able to show only the data from May, or only from April etc as required. I believe this is different to simply changing the relatve date filter to show the last 2 calendar months since it will combine the previous 2 months not show the data from only the month that was 2 months ago? I am aware that this can be achieved using the advanced filter and setting a date range but unfortunately this is far too time consuming and I am hoping for a more efficient long term solution. Is there anyway to do this?

hello @PowerAutomater

you certainly can do the same thing as slicer in visual filter (i just thought you are refrained to use visual filter).

here is an simple example

- here is a sample data

- you need to create a calculated column to define your month date. i assumed you directly consume date column in visual filter because you have relative date option

- assign your value in card visual along with the calculated column as the filter

- your users should be able to choose any month they want to see

Hope this will help.

Thank you.

Hi @PowerAutomater,

All these information is making some confusion. Could you please provide some sample data, how you want to looking in the BI report.

Accordingly we will provide the actual solution.

hello @PowerAutomater

i assumed you are describing slicer visual.

then you can do month selection in your slicer, it makes your users freely jump to any month they want to see.

this way, also, can let your user choose multiple selection.

i think this might be the easiest way based on your requirement if i am not misunderstood.

Hope this will help.

Thank you.

Hi @Irwan sorry I should have mentioned that I am using data cards (question updated), since I am getting totals for several fields for specific months. But if there is a way to show something similar with a slicer happy to try it out.

hello @PowerAutomater

do you not have slicer? how do you define relative date in your card visual?

is it using relative date slicer or by DAX measure?

Thank you.

No not using a slicer just a filter set to the relative date:

hello @PowerAutomater

that looks like a visual or page filter to me.

i thought you dont want to use visual filter as you described above.

if you dont want to use visual filter, then you need a slicer as a date selection.

Thank you.

I'd prefer to use the data card if possible, but are you saying that other than using the advanced filter for a visual there is no other way to achieve this?  If so then yes perhaps i'll need to consider using the slicer instead
