Power BI Bookmarks for grouped visuals
I have two bookmarks that swap the visibility of two groups. Within these groups, I have a graph, or table, whose visibility is also toggleable
The issue arises when selecting one of the bookmarks that is only meant to impact group visibility, the individual visibility of items within the group is also affected. Showing Group 1 with the bookmark also sets the graph in Group 1 to Show, and the table to Hide, even though these items were not individually selected when updating the bookmark.
I would expect the bookmark set to selected visuals on a group only affects the visibility of the overall group, and if I want the items within the group to be specifically set by this bookmark, to select them as well. However, this is not the case, and this results in the bookmark overreaching and doing more than it was specified to do.
Is there a workaround to get the inteded behaviour, of a bookmark only affecting the visibility of a group as a whole, and leaving the visibility of the items within it to their current state?
I will try to explain the problem a bit better here, as well as provide my current work-around.
GROUP 1:
Drop-down slicer set to single select, filters "Percentile"
Multi-Select list slicer, filters "Node"
Graph with X-Axis of "Date", Y-Axis of "Price", and "Node" as legend
Table with "Date", "Price", "Node" as columns
GROUP 2:
Drop-down slicer set to single select, filters "Node"
Multi-Select list slicer, filters "Percentile"
Graph with X-Axis of "Date", Y-Axis of "Price", and "Percentile" as legend
Table with "Date", "Price", "Percentile" as columns
This allows two views, for each group. One where you can see the data as a table, one where you can see it as a graph.
(Note: the table is behind the graph in both visuals)
Now it is easy enough to set up bookmarks to switch between the two by setting them to selected visuals and display only, then changing visibility and setting the bookmark.
Show Group 1:
Group 1 => Visible
Group 2 => Hidden
Show Group 2:
Group 1 => Hidden
Group 2 => Visible
(note that none of the individual items within the group were selected when setting these bookmarks, only the group itself)
Then I want to add an option to switch between viewing the graph and the table, so I add two more bookmarks, both set to Selected Visuals, and Display.
Show Table:
All Graphs => Hidden
All Tables => Visible
Show Graph:
All Graphs => Visible
All Tables => Hidden
Now the issue emerges:
1) I select "Show Group 1", then switch to "Table", I see the group 1 table:
(Note that selecting "Show Table" also affects the visibility of Group 2 Graph and Tabe, as intended)
2) I select "Show Group 2". I don't see the table, but instead the graph, even though the table was visible and the graph was hidden in the previous step. This is NOT the inteded behaviour.
In changing to "Show Group 2", the visibility of individual group 1 and group 2 items was changed, rather than just the group visibility.
This is the issue.
The Solution:
Instead of using a bookmark navigator for the "Show Graph" and "Show Table" bookmarks, use buttons. This way they are not highlighted when clicked, so do not imply that they remember their state when switching between group 1 and group 2.

Hi brago95
From what I understand:
You want Group 2 visuals to be visible (except the chart) and Group 1 visuals to be visible (except the chart) when clicking the Compare Percentile bookmark.
You want Group 2 visuals to be visible (except the table) and Group 1 visuals to be visible (except the table) when clicking the Compare Nodes bookmark.
If that’s the case, I would suggest the following steps:
Step 1 – For the Compare Percentile bookmark:
Make both groups and all visuals visible.
Hide the charts.
Hold Ctrl and select all visuals individually in both groups
(do not click on the group name – only select the individual visuals).Update the Compare Percentile bookmark.
Step 2 – For the Compare Nodes bookmark:
Make both groups and all visuals visible.
Hide the tables.
Hold Ctrl and select all visuals individually in both groups
(do not click on the group name – only select the individual visuals).Update the Compare Nodes bookmark.
it should look like this

Not quite.
"Compare Nodes" should make group 2 visible and group 1 hidden.
"Compare Percentiles" should make group 1 visible and group 2 hidden.
So both of these work together to make a sort of toggle between two views.
Now within those views, I want to be able to toggle between seeing data in a table, and seeing it in a graph. Each sit within their respective group.
I don't want the previous two bookmarks to remember if the table or graph is visible, I want to control this with an eniterly separate set of bookmarks that act only on the table and graph. However, I find that the original bookmarks remember the individual visibility of items within the group, even if they were not selected during the update of the bookmark.For example, I set the group 1 bookmark with the graph visible and table hidden (note the graph and table are not selected when setting the bookmark, just the parent group that they belong to).
I then view the group 1 bookmark, hide the graph, and show the table. I then view the group 2 bookmark, then view the group 1 bookmark again.
The result: The graph is shown, and the table is hidden, despite them not being selected when setting the bookmark.My desired result: The table is shown and the graph is hidden, as this is what I set when last viewing that group.

If this is the desired behavior you need , maybe go with four bookmarks ?
Bookmark Shows Group Hides Group Chart/Table Behavior Compare Percentiles Group 1 Group 2 Compare Nodes Group 2 Group 1 Show Chart Shows Chart_1 or Chart_2 Hides the corresponding Table Show Table Shows Table_1 or Table_2 Hides the corresponding Chart

Hi brago95,
Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft fabric community forum.I’ve reproduced your scenario in Power BI Desktop and was able to achieve the expected behavior exactly as you described:
- Show Group 1 / Show Group 2 bookmarks only toggle the visibility of the groups themselves without changing the visibility of the table or graph inside.
- Table/Graph bookmarks work independently within each group, maintaining the last set state when switching groups.
To achieve this, I used the Selection Pane to carefully select only the groups (not the individual visuals inside them) when updating the Show Group 1 and Show Group 2 bookmarks. I also ensured the bookmark options had “Selected visuals” checked (and “Data” unchecked), so that each group toggle bookmark only affects the groups themselves and not the contents within.
I’m attaching the .pbix file I used to reproduce this scenario for your reference. Feel free to download and explore it.
Thanks for, kushanNa for sharing your valuable insights.
