Hey @saliknaveed ,

When connecting to your My Files folder on SharePoint through Power BI Desktop using the SharePoint Folder connector, the method is slightly different from connecting to a typical SharePoint site. Those steps are must be helpful for you:

Step-1: Copy the Correct Base URL
Even though your full folder URL might look like this:

https://[company_name]-my.sharepoint.com/personal/[user_name]_domain_com/Documents/Samples%20Data

You should not paste this entire URL into Power BI.

Instead, use only the root of the SharePoint site:

https://[company_name]-my.sharepoint.com
Avoid using /personal/... or /my links -- they often return empty or unrelated results.

Step-2: Connect Using Power BI Desktop

  • Open Power BI Desktop.
  • Go to Home → Get Data → More.
  • Search and select SharePoint Folder.
  • Paste the base SharePoint URL: https://[company_name]-my.sharepoint.com
  • Click Connect.

Step-3: Authenticate Correctly: Authenticate as you are suitable for.

Step 4: Filter to Your Specific Folder

  • In the preview, click Transform Data.
  • In Power Query, use filters on the Folder Path column to narrow down results to: /personal/[user_name]_domain_com/Documents/Samples Data
  • You can also filter by file name or extension if needed.

If you found this solution helpful, please consider accepting it and giving it a kudos (Like) it’s greatly appreciated and helps others find the solution more easily.

Hi @saliknaveed

Welcome to the Microsoft Fabric Forum. Also, thank you @Nasif_Azam and @pankajnamekar25 for your qucik responses.

The issue you are facing is due to an incorrect URL format when attempting to connect Power BI Desktop to your OneDrive for Business "My Files" folder using the "SharePoint Folder" connector. The URLs you provided do not correctly point to your personal OneDrive storage, resulting in an empty table or unrelated files.

The "SharePoint Folder" connector in Power BI Desktop is designed to connect to SharePoint sites and can also work with OneDrive for Business (since it’s built on SharePoint). However, it requires the correct URL to access the folder structure.

For OneDrive, the URL must point to the user’s personal site ([company_name]-my.sharepoint.com/personal/[user_name]_domain_com), and Power BI needs to interpret the /Documents folder as the root.

Attempt 1 failed because it used the wrong domain and an incorrect path structure, resulting in no data being returned.Attempt 2 pointed to the main SharePoint site, retrieving unrelated company files instead of the user's OneDrive content.

Use the correct URL: https://[company_name]-my.sharepoint.com/personal/[user_name]_domain_com (e.g., https://mycompany-my.sharepoint.com/personal/john_doe_company_com). In Power BI Desktop, navigate to Get Data > SharePoint Folder, input the URL, and sign in with your Microsoft 365 credentials. Filter the Folder Path column to /personal/[user_name]_domain_com/Documents/Samples Data, then click Load.

If you face permission issues, confirm access with your IT admin. For single files, you can alternatively use the Web connector with a direct shareable link.

Hello @saliknaveed

Use Web Connector for specific files

Go to your SharePoint "My Files" folder in a browser.

Click on a file (e.g., Excel or CSV) and open it in browser.

Copy the file’s URL (it will be something like https://[company]-my.sharepoint.com/.../filename.xlsx).
