How to conditional format negatives and positives depending on the value of a category

Hi,

I have a category that i put in my column's section of my matrix table.

The category includes values such as: Active, Cancelled, Expired.

I want to conditional format the values under these categories. Essentially, any number above 0 is a positive change for "Active" and the opposite for "Cancelled" and "Expired" (i.e: positive change is any number under 0).

It would look something like this:

status    active    cancelled    expired

Mnth    %             %               %

1           +4%           -2%           +3%

+4% = green

-2% = green

+3% = red

I've been playing around the conditional formatting feature and i don't think it works.

Any ideas?
