How to change the date format?

Sorry to be asking a question that has been asked a zillion times already but I've tried so many of the existing answers, and Bing Chat, that I am losing the will to live. None of the answers match up with the options that are actually on my screen.

I have some data in a SQL Server table. I created a dataflow in a PPU workspace and selected data from that table. One of the columns is a date column. The dates appeared correctly in format dd/mm/yyyy in the dataflow. I saved the dataflow and accepted the prompt to refresh the data. I launched Power BI Desktop and consumed the dataflow. I placed the date column in a table visual. The dates appear in format dd mmm yyyy. I cannot find any option to change this in either the dataflow or the report.

(I have found a "Date time format" property in the Properties pane of the table's entry in the Model view, but it is greyed out and read only. Also, it is set to dd/mm/yyyy, which is already the format I want! But the data is not displayed in this format; it is displayed in dd mmm yyyy, so I think this properties sheet is a red herring.)

Where is the date format controlled from please? And, where can I set the default so I don't have to keep changing it every time I design a report?

Hi @Anonymous ,

A contextual tab appears when you select a column (Column Tool). You can enter dd/mmm/yyyy in Format.

It looks like you're in Power BI Desktop there. I can't bring up anything resembling the layout you shared. How can I display the table so I can select a column?

I In your screenshot, there are three icons in a column on the left. I'm missing one of them, and I think that's probably what I need to click on. How do I make it appear?

You've connected with the SQL source with live connection, instead choose import mode so that will make you able to see the data view.

Connecting to the data source is a function in the dataflow, so I've gone back to see what edit I can make to the connection. The dialog I have seems to be missing "Import" and "Connect live" as options. I'm pretty sure that what is happening is an import though, because there is a step after saving the dataflow design where the time involved and the row counts make it obvious that all the data is being loaded. Here is what I have:

How can I make the setting you mention appear?
