Help With Developer Tools

I followed the tutorial here, but when I get to the point of

  • Select the Developer Visual in the Visualizations pane

I get an error that pops up inside the visual:
Can't contact visual server
Please make sure the visual server is running and configured correctly.

At the bottom of this tutorial it says to:

  • Begin developing your visual (make sure pbiviz start is running)

But if I open a command prompt and type pbiviz start I get a big error of

error LOAD ERROR Error: pbiviz.json not found. You must be in the root of a visual project to run this command

What do I need to setpu/change in order to create my own?

I think I see what is going on.

there are currently 2 experiences.

1 is being deprecated and is PURELY a web thing.  If you go up to Settings | Dev Tools, you directly get to a code editing window, and "that's it".  (great experience for low barrier to entry).

The other requires a bunch of locally installed bits, start here: https://github.com/microsoft/powerbi-visuals-docs

That error just sounds like you need to "cd" into your new visual directory before running "pbiviz start".

@Anonymous --> Where would my directory be?  I am using the web version.
