Hi @sonalimali7 ,

You can learn more about Group By by means of DAX or Power Query by following the links below:

DAX:  GROUPBY

Power Query: Grouping or summarizing rows

DAX VS Power Query:

Thanks for the reply Tom. I know the difference between both.

When we use the DAX for the group by then Power Bi creates a separate table. Is It possible to handle this using calculate measure or column?

Hey @sonalimali7 ,

I have to admit that I have no idea what you are trying to achieve. For this reason, please provide more information and describe your requirement in more detail..

Regards,

Tom

Hey Tom,

I have achieved functionality using Summarize function but My question is when we use Group by, Summarize or SummarizeColumn DAX functions then In Power BI, it is creating an extra table.

Can we achieve this using measure or calculate column which will not create an extra table.

Hey @sonalimali7 ,

still, your requirement is not clear, I assume I'm slow today.

I recommend following this module about data modeling: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/learn/paths/model-power-bi/

Grouping data (filtering data) is one of the core capabilities of the Power BI data model based on the SQL Server Analysis Services Tabular engine.

You can create tables that help to filter/aggregate/group your data and write a measure, if there is more to the aggregation of numeric values then the available aggregation functions.

Regards,

Tom

Hey @sonalimali7 ,

please provide more information. Are you wondering about the difference between the DAX funciton GROUPBY (https://dax.guide/groupby/) and the Power Query Group by transformation (https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-query/group-by)?

Regards,

Tom
