The PowerBI visuals are nice in PowerBI, but often look bad outside PowerBI (if copied into PowerPoint etc.).
Would it be possible to have Excel-style charts in PowerBI (i.e. clearly visible x and y axis and black rather than grey as the default colour)?
This is true - the defaults are sometimes set to have the data bars "pop out more" and less emphasis on the axes etc by using gray.
One way to adjust this is to edit / adjust the axes colours and lines on the visual itself - and if you use it numerous times , make copies of the visual on hte canvas and replace the fields as required.
Cole Nussbaumer Knaflic has a great book and website on the ways to make charts more visually appealling and is angling her evangelism on the defaults that Excel have that don't do this by default. My design of charts has changed since reading this book, but I guess in some cases you need to have a chart in Power BI look exactly as it did in Excel.
But with customisation you can pretty much get a chart to look like an Excel chart.
Not sure if this helps any
Happy new year
