Error message : Cannot create process.

I've shared a working PBIT to one of my customers.

It includes several queries to extract data from a SQL Azure DB.

However when they open the PBIT, the following error pops up:

This user is not a Local Admin on their machine while I am.

Even though it should not have anything to do with, we have changed this setting (to unchecked):

Which seems to have clarified the error somewhat:

Any idea's?
(Next thing to check - in a call - is to see if they can connect without using a PBIT...)

I have the same exact issue. The data loads in the preview but one you click the final load button it spits out an error:

The same reports worked like a charm before I switched computers (went from Windows 7 to Windows 10 and had to download Power BI Desktop again as the Windows 7 installer wouldnt run). Additionally there might have been some security changes where I work, but the error, to an end user like me, sheds no light on where I should be looking.

We can discard:

  1. Connection to the database, as I can access the database through SQL Developer.
  2. Problem with the querys, as they are from reports that worked perfectly before I upgraded to Windows 10.

When importing data I get the:

Error Message:
Cannot create process.

When trying Direct query I get a second error:

Error Message:
No se puede cargar el esquema de modelo (which would translate to canot load the model schema).

Platform

I am running

Power BI version: 2.65.5313.1381 64-bit.

OS Version: Microsoft Windows NT 10.0.14393.0 (x64 es-ES)

CLR Version: 4.6.2 or later [Release Number = 394802]

Database Client Oracle 12.2 c loading data from an Oracle 11g Database

It must be something in the combination of PBI Desktop and the machine that is used.

What we did now, as a workaround, is that I published the PBIX to the PBI Service (with their credentials).
That worked fine.

Then scheduled a daily refresh and handed over to the customer again...

I'm still in the dark on what is the actual root-cause (now, I've just bypassed whatever was not working).

Interesting details is that if the customer downloads the PBIX from the PBI Service and then uses PBI Desktop it works...
(so perhaps it's indeed the PBIT which is causing issues rather then a PBIX
But because it's sensitive information, I could not easily share the PBIX and decided to share the template instead)

In our case I found the root of the problem. Some processes where being blocked by our enterprise security software. I got in touch with the security team, ran the processes from different computers and pinpointed the ones that needed to be enabled.

Hope you can also fix it on your side!

Hi @bastiaaf,

By my tests based on your description with the latest version of Power BI Desktop 2.65.5313.701 64-bit (December 2018), I cannot reproduce your issue.

Did your customer have the step type the their credential when open the pbit?

Does this error occur before or after the input authentication?

Best Regards,

Cherry

hi @v-piga-msft,

1. I've asked my customer for the exact version of PBI Desktop, will share it once I get it.
Done, same version: 2.65.5313.701 64-bit (december 2018)

2. "Did your customer have the step type the their credential when open the pbit?"
I'm afraid I don't understand what you're actually asking for...?

3. The error occurs after authentication.
In fact, when we were testing with a simple connect to the Azure SQL DB (without the PBIT), the authentication went fine.
Also the preview was loaded OK, however THEN - when you try to do a real "Load" - the error comes up.

Administrator rights did not help it seems, the same error occurs.

We are really stuck here, Next to this thread I will try use other MS-contacts to get support...
But @v-piga-msft, help is still more then welcome!

Also with starting with a clean report (clearing permissions/credentials) we receive the error mentioned before.

The odd thing is that data is presented in the "Preview", but whenever you click <Load> the error appears.
It would be my best guess that PBI is trying to write somewhere (whenever actually loading the data) this User has no permissions for...?

I would recommend to refresh all queries in Power Query and see if everything loads correctly at each step without any error and then to Close and Apply and see if the same error is thrown or not.
