Direct Query question

Just a quick question. I am importing my data from Oracle as Direct Query (not Import). I want to change names of columns, make some other changes and few things. Will something affect on data source? So for example I am changing name of column from aaa to bbb - it will be only in Power BI? In Oracle it will be still aaa? And it's always like that?

@jdmbkj as long as you do that in Power Query (not somre custom sql you send to the source that will maybe do write back stuff) , then yes, don't worry 🙂

But for example. I am now changing the name of the column in Power Query Editor. When I change it, there is a message that says "This step results in a query that is not supported in DirectQuery mode.". I don't know, is this really safe that nothing will change in database?

@jdmbkj it means that the step you did doesn't go through folding which in best practice in import but..neccesary sometimes in direct query scenarios. So basically it won't work for you, but anyway it won't do anything to the data source.
