Desktop report overloading and crashing

Hi All,

Has anyone come across a problem where a report desktop file fails to open for any user apart from the report owner.

It appears like it overloads and causes that file to not respond which crashes that power bi window. CPU/Memory on my laptop does not get impacted so it seems just be a problem with this file.

There are no query or DAX errors but there are a lot of visuals, particually cards but not many fields included in these visuals. We also have links included that go to SSRS pages.

Has anyone experienced the same problem? Understood how to fix it?

Thanks,

Amy

As an overall update, it did seem to be the visuals that were the problem. It needed to be optimised and looked at how many visuals were on there/what was needed (we had a lot cards that we swapped to tables). Whether it was too many visuals or one that was erroring due to the old desktop version we don't know. But it was a case of slowly debugging what worked and what didn't. Changing the memory settings as mentioned above did actually help along the line too. If anyone has the same problem that is a good place to start.

@AmyJessica02 , Open an empty power bi file, and increase memory management cache to 8 -10 GB

file -> option and settings-> options

Apply and open the other file.

Thanks @amitchandak,

This didn't work for me but it makes sense for the owner to be able to open as I guess it has cached thier results?

My thinking is somewhere in the report there is a visual that is upsetting it, they were copied from an old report made in power bi a couple of years ago.

Any more thoughts would be appreciated!

Thanks,

Amy

Hi, @AmyJessica02

Whether it has something to do with PowerBI Desktop version?

Regards,

Ethan

Hi @Ethan96

Thanks for your reply, We are on the latest version on power bi but yes i think the old report version and copying from it was the problem.

Thanks,

Amy
