I have a powerbi dashboard which connects to a datamart in our app.powerbi.com area.
I have a table on there with dates on it that is sorted in descending order with another field that has the longdate format (10 Jan 2022). In the datamart online, the data is all sorted the way I want it. However, when I connect to the datamart from PowerBI desktop and use a slicer for that table to get the longdate field, the data is now sorted in alphabetical order (01 April 2023, 01 April 2022 etc).
I used to be able to sort one column by another, but that option is now greyed out in the model.
I'm running version 2.129.905.0 64-bit (May 2024)

Hi @ryoungWH ,
Consider turning the connection to DirectQuery mode (lower right corner of the desktop) and sorting by another column:

Hi
Surely this negates the datamart as it's a local version of the model? Also it won't let me sort descending on the sort field.
Hi @ryoungWH ,
This is more of a limitation in Live Connection. The modeling capabilities in this mode are limited, relying mostly on the data source, and there is no way to sort one column by another.
In Dirctquery you can use Sort one column by another column, which extends some of the modeling capabilities. So this is more related to connection mode.

Hi Amit
Thanks for coming back on this - I presume you mean the sematic model online? I can't find an option for sorting the table on a particular field. I can create an exploration and seem to be able to sort it as I want, but is that the same as the datamart?
