Dataflow - Desktop Connection error

Hello Together!

I have been facing an issue recently. There is scenario where i have created a Dataflow (main source is from Sql) where some of the tables are just the direct tables and others are formed through merging and appending as per the requirement.

So after setting all the tables -

1. First issue is -

Sometimes even in the dataflow itself i'm not getting to see the values i thought this would be because there wouldnt be any matching values in the merge and hence the data is not populating but that is not the case. I dont know the reason but sometimes data is showing and sometimes its not.

2. Second issue is -

Even at times when the data is showing and when i try to import the same in the desktop the table is not showing any data.

Points Verified from my end -

1. I have also checked on the data point whether there is any value in the table as i have used some filters but even after many transformations there are matching values in the all the tables which should come in the merge as well.

2. Checked on the Database refresh cycle whether the schedule refresh and database refresh are taking at the same time but its not.

So I Kindly request you to advice me on this issue, as i dont have any idea on what / why it is happening.

Thanks in advance!

Snips for your reference

Snip 1 - Data is availabel in the dataflow

I'm also having this problem, I'm not sure when it started, but everything seemed to be working last week.

The problem for me seems to be intermittent, sometimes it can connect and get the data, other times it can't even see the Dataflows. As far as I know, I have no problems accessing anything else, it just seems to be accessing Dataflows on Power BI Desktop. I have tried using Dataflows in different workspaces and still have this issue.

Sometimes I'm getting an OLE DB or ODBC error: [DataSource.Error] Unable to connect to the remote server. error message when I try to refresh the data in Power BI Desktop.

My Power BI Desktop version is 2.107.841.0 32-bit

EDIT: I just tested again with 2.118.621.0 64-bit (June, 2023) and I'm still running into this problem. I didn't think this would work, but it's always best to test with the newest version.

Hello @McGregor ,

Thanks a lot for your resposne and valuable time.

Last week i found the root casue of this error which was very trivial. I'm not sure about your scenario but in my case i had to create unique key columns which had combinations of both text and number so in some tables all the letters were in CAPS and in some tables those were in small. When changed everything to CAPS and tried loading the data it worked well and untill now no issues with the dataflow.

As my source was from Sql database where all these columns were by default in CAPS i thought it will be same while importing it, so didnt check this point and also i thought texts used in a dax inside " " where only case senstive but this one shocked me as i was revolving with issue for nearly a month.
