Data Source - Excel on the Web - Stopped Working

Hello!

Withing the past few months my graphs stopped auto-updating and I havn't been able to pin point the issue. My data source is an Excel Online doc provided from a user that was suppose to auto-update on a daily basis, but has stopped working since 1/8/2025.

When I got into my Data source settings I keep getting the following error.

DataSource.Error: Web.Contents failed to get contents from 'https://SHAREPOINTSITE/personal/USERNAME/_api/web/getfilebyserverrelativeurl('/FILEPATH/DOC_NAME.xls...' (404): Not Found

I've tried deleting and re-adding my Global permissions, but the issue is still happening.

Not sure what else to try, any help would be greatly appreciated!
Details:
DataSourceKind=Web
DataSourcePath=https://SHAREPOINTSITE/personal/USERNAME/FILEPATH/DOC_NAME.xlsb.xlsx

Hi @KojoBeef ,

Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Fabric Community.

Thank you @lbendlin  for the prompt response.

  • Open the Excel file in your browser and confirm it still exists and hasn’t been moved or renamed.
  • In Power BI, use Get Data -> Web, and paste the current working URL of the Excel file from your browser.
  • Instead of "Web", use Get Data -> SharePoint Folder and enter the site root (e.g., https://yourtenant.sharepoint.com/sites/SITENAME), then filter for your file.
  • Go to Data source settings in Power BI and ensure you're signed in with the correct account (usually organizational login).
  • If published, check Scheduled Refresh settings and logs for errors.

Thanks! Like the other comment stated I had to end up changing the connector to the Sharepoint Folder. Not sure why the origional connector for Excel stopped working, but this is a work around for now.

Thanks!

Use the correct connector. (ie SharePoint Folder)
