Data Refresh

Anyone faced with this error message while refreshing data in Power Bi desktop:
references other queries or steps, so it may not directly access a data source. Please rebuild this data combination.

If yes, please message me if you have a solution. Thanks

Hi, @garimajain85
Thanks for reaching out to the Microsoft fabric community forum.

Regarding your issue, you can also try opening the Advanced Editor for the queries you referenced and merging the two into a single query. Here is a screenshot of a response to a similar issue:

Hi @garimajain85  -This error occurs in Power BI Desktop when there is a data privacy level conflict or data source combination issue in Power Query.

If you're working in a secure environment, you can disable the privacy level checks:

Go to File > Options and Settings > Options.
Under Global > Privacy, set "Ignore Privacy Levels".
Save and try refreshing again.
2. Set Privacy Levels for Each Data Source
Go to File > Options and Settings > Data Source Settings.
Find your data sources and set consistent privacy levels (e.g., "Organizational" or "Public").

Disabling privacy checks or using Table.Buffer works well in development but ensure you understand the implications for production (e.g., performance and security).
