Data Model

i'm new to Power BI Desktop and trying to understand how the modelling works across mulitple documents, if we have say 10 documents all using the same data model and i want to make a change to that data model, do i have to manually change each model or is there a way to link a document to a data model?

Yes I am referring to PowerBI pro. And welcome to PowerBI world. There are lot more capabilities when you are using PowerBI pro mainly around content sharing.

Anyhow never hesitate to reach out if you have any question or need help.

@PhilipLewington I guess when you are saying document, you are referring to powerbi file (PBIX). You can publish pbix to powerbi service and then use that in your other reports using powerbi service as data source. It will allow you to make change in data model at one place (original file you published to service) and all reports depended on it will get updated data model.

Make sure every time you make a change in data model, you need to publish the data model report.

Hi @parry2k  i guess when you say publish this is something we can do in Power BI Pro, we currently use tableau but are exploring Power BI as an alternative so i'm trying to understand the capabilities.

Thanks

Phil
