Custom Connector for SSAS

I am following this document (https://github.com/Microsoft/DataConnectors) to build and connect customer connector with Power BI Desktop.

I am able to follow the following steps:

  1. Install the Power Query SDK from the Visual Studio Marketplace
  2. Create a new Data Connector project
  3. Define your connector logic
  4. Build the project to produce an extension file
  5. Copy the extension file into the [Documents]\Power BI Desktop\Custom Connectors directory
    ...................
but i am struggling as how to use the custom connector to use in SSAS.  As we are aware, to add data we right click on "Data Sources" in Visual Studio Community -> Tabular Model Editor -> Data Sources -> Import from Data Source -> Get Data (here would like to see my newly created visual) which is if were using Power BI Desktop and adding the connection to "[Documents]\Power BI Desktop\Custom Connectors" but not sure in the case of SSAS.

    in other (ChatGPT's) 🙂 words:

I'm following a guide to build a custom connector for Power BI Desktop that accesses [data source type, e.g., a custom API]. I've successfully completed the steps of installing the Power Query SDK, creating a Data Connector project, defining the connector logic, building the project, and copying the extension file.

Now, I'm wondering how to leverage this custom connector data within SSAS. In Power BI Desktop, you can add custom connectors from the "[Documents]\Power BI Desktop\Custom Connectors" folder. Unfortunately, SSAS doesn't seem to have a similar functionality.

Are there any alternative approaches to utilize the data retrieved by my custom connector in an SSAS Tabular model? Perhaps there's a way to import directly from the original data source the connector accesses, or maybe creating a view in that source database would be a solution?

Any help will be highly appreciarted.

    Regards,

    Shakir

Hi @shakir_khananai ,

For SSAS,there is no better way than direct connection.
