Creating thin reports

I have a dashboard that has 6 pages tied to it and have it published in an app. I wanted to limit the page view but realized that i can only change the view on the whole dashboard. I saw something called a thin report where you basically break up the dashboard and in my case create 6 thin reports and have them connect directly to the data model.

How do you handle when there needs to be edits in a thin report such as measures? Do you make edits directly on the thin report? or do you do something else?

I would strongly agree with lbendlin that you want to always try to make your modeling changes in your gold semantic model.

If you start the habit of writing DAX in your thin reports, you will create a maintenance headache for yourself and you will lose the single source of truth value a semantic model can provide when used appropriately. 

In addition to the modeling advantages it also comes with some security advantages as you have realized.  Would encourage you to ensure you are using audiences and entra security groups to manage security as well.

This depends on where the measure is created. If it is created in the model, then edit in the model. Otherwise, the edit will have to be done in that specific thin report.

Repeat after me: Page Level Security Does Not Exist.

These reports all access the same "golden"  semantic model.  Make your logic changes there.
