Creating Dynamic Org chart

Hi all,

I am trying to create a dynamic org chart where one person is reporting to multiple people, something like below,

I drew above in Visio, however, in visio it is difficult to keep up with the multiple crossing lines when the chart become bigger. so I was trying to create something similar in PowerBI, where the visual is more clear and with the help of slicers it clearly shows the reporting line. For this I created a Table in excel as following which I am using as my data source.

In PowerBI, I used multiple Hirearchy chart like below to achieve what I have made in vision but I am not able to make a multiple parent relation, for example, I would like Person 1 to report to Name 1-8, for this reason I used the same ID but it doesnt work as I have it in Visio.

Any suggestion how I can achieve my goal?

Hi @Rayman ,

Please change your source data so that the id column has no duplicate values.

Like this:

If you don't want to modify the data source, you can also click "transform data" to enter the power query, delete the original id column, add an index column, and change the column name.

Place the field on the visual object as shown below.

Hi @v-tangjie-msft , Thanks a lot for your reply. I was able to get this but I am looking for a slight different view, something like below, as I dont want to show same person (in this case Person 1) appearing multiple times, instead show Person 1 (only once) reporting to Name 1 - Name 6. 

Is above possible to achieve?

Hi @Rayman ,

Since your parent id is different, this is the normal expected result of this custom visual object. You might consider developing your own custom visual object. Develop custom visuals in Power BI - Power BI | Microsoft Learn

This custom visual object only supports merging multiple different sub-layers.

Hi @v-tangjie-msft , Thanks for your support, I was thinking of the same but this will not work again when multiple person needs to report to same manager, in this case when Person 1 and 2 needs to report to Manager 6. 

Are there any visuals which accepts multiple parent to multiple child nodes?

As far as I know, there doesn't seem to be such a visual object.

If you would like to suggest  feature improvements, you may vote the idea and comment here to improve this feature. It is a place for customers provide feedback about Microsoft Office products .
