Connection to a SQL Server

Hi all,

I need connect my local computer to a remote server with Windows, in this server i have my SQL Server. My questions is, how do i connect my Power Bi Desktop to that SQL Server?

I already have a gateway installed in the server.

Thank you by advance

You can just add your SQL Server Name and your database name (optional) and that will connect to your database with Power BI.

The below link will help you to do that:

No, still can't connect.

I think i didn't explained well.

My Windows server need authentication to enter there, then in SQL Server need authenticate again.

@Marrafeiro ,

It's look like you don't have access directly to your SQL server. If Power BI is installed on your machine, you can't connect like this.

Ask you IT Team if you can access the server from your machine, so you will be able to connect PBI to SQL Server.

YOU -> REMOTE DESKTOP -> SQL SERVER

YOU -> SQL SERVER

Unless you have directly access to the server, from the machine where PBI runs, you are not able to connect anything to your database server.

"My Windows server need authentication to enter there, then in SQL Server need authenticate again."

If you are the admin, check if the correct SQL Server/Firewall are open for it.

This is a network/security task.

Hi @Marrafeiro ,

How are you connecting to this server ? Only local connection or from another host ?

You are gonna need the address of this server and user/password.

Gateway is after that. when you have you report published you need a software to transfer the data from your source to pbi service, the gateway.

Normally i connect to that server by Remote Access Desktop with my credencials.

@Marrafeiro ,

You have to check if you are allowed to connect to this server from a remote host. If yes, just connect by server name/address and user/password.
