Connecting to tabular model on Azure VM from PBI Desktop

I have a tabular model on an Azure VM that I can't connect to with PBI Desktop.  I have set analysis services tabular to listen to specific port, created endpoints for that port and opened firewall for that port so that I can hit this tabular model with Excel from on premise Excel with no problem but PBI Desktop will not connect.  Any ideas or suggestions?  I am putting in the server box the ip address:port # (ex 100.43.24.56:49159).  This works great in Excel but not PBI Desktop.

Thanks,

Brad

Hi @bradmarshall,

In your scenario, does the Power BI Desktop exist on the different server from the Azure VM has SSAS? To enable the SSAS server can be remote, please check if you have added the In-Bound rule to allow connection on 49159 in the VM. For more information, please refer to this article: Analysis Services Configuration.

In addition, what's the error message throws out when you connect to SSAS tabular mode from Power BI Desktop? Also please enable tracing in Power BI desktop to check if you can find any useful information in log files: Power BI Desktop Trace Logs Analyser.

If you have any question, please feel free to ask.

Best Regards,
