Connecting PostgreSQL - Why the complexity?

So I have a PostgreSQL database I am looking to connect to PowerBI. I was surprised to see how its not a straight forward procedure like connecting a mysql database. Here, addtional certificates / drivers etc are needed.  Seems you also need a local gateway?

The forum is littered with people haivng all sorts of issues with connecting a postgresql database.  I think this deserves some attention from the dev team.

Why the complexity?
