Connect a Copilot Agent to Power BI

Hi everyone, I am working on connecting a Copilot agent that is built out in Copilot Studio, and I need to find out how to connect it to a Power BI dashboard, so it can review the data and develop commentary (which is what the Agent is built to do). Does anybody have experience in how to connect this successfully? looking for insights and guidance. Thank you, Allan

Hi @AllanMou , Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Community Forum.

What you want to do is not supported as a direct, built-in connection today. A Copilot Studio agent cannot natively connect to a Power BI report or semantic model and read its data. There is no “add Power BI as a data source” option for Copilot Studio.

To make this work, you have to put an API in between. You query the Power BI dataset using the Power BI REST API (ExecuteQueries) or the XMLA endpoint, wrap that query in an Azure Function, Fabric Notebook or Power Automate flow and then expose it as an Action in Copilot Studio. The agent calls that Action, gets back tabular results and uses them to generate commentary.
