Cases where headers are correctly recognized in Power Query

Hello,

I am using the Web Data Connector in Power BI to retrieve Excel data from SharePoint. However, although the data is the same, my headers are not being read properly, while another person is able to see the headers correctly. How should the Excel file be set up for Power Query to correctly recognize the headers?

Hi,Bibiano_Geraldo and Ajithkumar_P_05 ,thanks for your concern about this issue.

Your answers are excellent!
And I would like to share some additional solutions below.

Hello,@Lora_0121 .I am glad to help you.

As Bibiano_Geraldo mentioned, the problem you are experiencing happens quite often when working with data on a daily basis. When loading data from excel, it is possible that the table headers are not recognized correctly, and you need to manually set the first row of the table to be the header.
Sometimes there is a problem with table header recognition, sometimes there is only table name and column name without actual data after importing data, sometimes there is error in data importing and so on.
In this case, I usually try to refresh Power BI (click on the Refresh button)
If it still doesn't solve the problem. I will try to re-open a Power BI Deskop thread and re-import the data (clearing the original data cache), which in most cases solves the problem.
In general, if you are having problems processing data in power query, you can check the following areas.
Try to click the refresh button (usually in your background modified excel data source)

Caching problem: Power BI sometimes caches old data, causing the old data to be displayed even after the data is refreshed. Clearing the cache and re-importing the data usually solves the problem.
Data format issues: Make sure the data in the Excel file is formatted consistently, with no blank rows or columns, which can lead to data loading issues
Version compatibility: Make sure the Power BI and Excel versions are newer.

@Ajithkumar_P_05 @Bibiano_Geraldo

The headers:

  • Are in the first row
  • Have unique names
  • There is no spaces
  • Have consistent data types
  • Not a merged cel

It is the same file, but while my colleague's Power Query recognizes the headers correctly, mine does not.

I have to manually set the first row as headers.

Is this a bug?

I am curious if this issue occurs frequently.

No, it's not a bug, that is normal my friend

Is it unclear when Power Query accurately recognizes headers?

Power query try to recognize the headers automatically, but this can fail, to make sure that the headers are always recognized in power query, convert your range of data in excel to Table:

Ensure the Excel file's headers are in the first row, with clear, unique names. Avoid merged cells, special characters, or blanks.
