Hello all. Had a question regarding this error:
I'm trying to add a PBI dataset to my data model which consists of a few tables from SQL Server, and an Excel sheet. Yet every time I attempt to add the PBI dataset, I get this error.
I have already opened up a new .pbix file and connected to the PBI dataset alone, so I know that works. I have also completed a refresh on my current dataset with all the tables, and was met with no errors. Its just when I attempt to combine the two the error occurs.
Any ideas? Appreciate it!

Hi, @Anonymous ;
Based on my tests, I first opened a PBIX in import mode and then linked to the PBI Dateset, and the following error occurred. As this blog says, Live Connection Cannot combine data from multiple sources.

"every time I attempt to add the PBI dataset" - which connector are you using, Power BI Dataset or Analysis Services? Do you have the "Direct Query for AS" preview feature enabled? Are you being asked to convert from live connection to direct query?
@lbendlin
I am using the Power BI dataset connector.
Direct Query for AS preview is enabled.
There is no prompt to convert from live connection to query.
To expand a bit, all my current tables connected through SQL server with no SQL statement, just direct to the table and loaded in. There is 1-2 Excel connections occuring. No other Power BI Dataset connection exists aside from the one I am trying to make now.
Edit: small correction, there are very simple SQL statements on the import of at least 1 table from SQL Server.
