My power bi desktop version is 2.79.5768.721 64-bit (March 2020)
I am tyring to add a parameter while Transform data step, which I did, and then I say close and apply, then I get this error,
I am using directquery mode, why is this happening ? Also, why do i not see Edit Queries in this version of powerbi desktop ?

Based on my test connecting to SQL Server with DirectQuery mode in the latest version 2.83.5894.721 of Power BI Desktop, creating a parameter is ok in Query Editor. You may upgrade the Power BI Desktop to the latest version , and try it again.

@Anonymous what is your data source? If it is a live connection or direct query to SSAS MD, you cannot make any changes to the model.
