Can't configure PBI Gateway for second user

I have an enterprise - onprem gateway installed on a notebook and it has been working well. I needed to add a new user to the gateway.  The new user logined to the notebook with their id. When we get to the gateway and cloud conections for the semantic model the data sources that are under my user id aren't there and we don't get the option to create new ones under the new users login. Is there a method to add a second user data connections to the gateway?

1. Gateway Configuration Is User-Specific in Power BI Service: The data source connections in the Power BI Service are tied to the user who created them. Even though the Enterprise Gateway is installed on the same machine, the cloud data source definitions live in the Power BI Service and are managed per user.

2. What 'Take Over' Does: When the second user performs Take Over on the dataset or data source, they become the owner. After that, they need to reconfigure the data source mapping in the Power BI Service.

3. Steps to Add New User’s Connections

• Have the new user:

  1. Go to Power BI Service.

  2. Navigate to Manage Gateways under Settings.

  3. Select the relevant Gateway Cluster.

  4. Click Add Data Source if needed, or reconfigure the existing one they took over.

• Ensure that:

  • The new user has permissions on the gateway (in Manage Gateways > Users tab).

  • The data source settings (e.g., credentials, privacy level) are correctly configured for the new user.

Things to remember: If the original data sources were using Windows authentication, you might need to update credentials. If the semantic model was published from Power BI Desktop, make sure the new user republishs it after Take Over if changes were made.

Even after using Take Over, the new user won’t see your existing data sources because the gateway and its connections are tied to the original user by default.

To resolve this:

1. Add the new user as a gateway admin in Power BI Service (under Manage Gateways).

2. The new user will likely need to manually recreate or rebind the data sources, as these don’t transfer between users.

3. For shared access, it’s best to manage the gateway centrally via Power BI and ensure all relevant users have admin or user permissions.

I forgot to mention that we performed the Take Over function with the new user.
