Can I create a Flow Map from Azure Map or ArcGIS Map

I use a Flow Map from Appsource authored by Wei Wei Chu. Unfortunately, the map started showing errors like Unlocatable error. I want to change the map and I cannot find a suitable flow map like that.

Can I use ArcGIS or Azure Maps to create a flow like effect.

I am trying to map trade data where there is a Country Reporter, Country Partner who is receiving Exports/Import of a Partcular Product on a Certain Month in the Year.

So my Data table has the following Columns:
Date
Year
Month
Country_reporter
Country_partner
Product
Measure (Either export or import).
Can I create a flow map which looks similar to this

Please let me know for any suggestions

Hi Sankey is not an option because I need a map for the trade flow. I cant embed a sankey on a map ofcourse. Secondly, I am still trying out Deneb. So, I am still looking for a suitable solution.

Hi @deepanwita25,

Thank you for your query on the Microsoft Fabric Community Forum.

As per my understanding, currently, neither Azure Maps nor ArcGIS Maps for Power BI supports directional or flow-style mapping between two geographical points (e.g., country-to-country trade flows).

Azure Maps offers support for bubble maps, heatmaps, and filled maps, which are suitable for point-based or area-based data, but not for representing directional flows.
ArcGIS Maps is highly effective for choropleth mapping, density layers, and reference layers; however, it is not ideal for visualising trade flow data.

Kindly consider the following alternatives, which may help resolve your issue:

  1. Sankey Chart (Microsoft Certified Visual):
Ideal for depicting flow from one entity to another (e.g., Reporter → Partner). It is simple to configure and supports filters such as product, year, or measure.

  2. Deneb (Advanced Custom Visual):
Enables complete customisation using JSON/Vega to render arcs or flow lines between countries on a map. This is well-suited for replicating a geographic flow map.

If you find our response helpful, kindly mark it as the accepted solution and consider giving kudos. This will assist other community members facing similar queries.

Thank you.
