Bar Chart Reference Line Data Label Text Size

Hi!  Is there a way to set the size of the reference line labels (without making the bar larger)? It's not listed as an option under Data Label - maybe it's somewhere else?  Or is there any custom visual that would give me more formatting options?

Hi @joyhackett
There are no options to change the size of constant line labels .

There is an idea about this issue please vote for it ( i voted 🙂 )

according to alternatives, it seems that you are trying to create some kind of bullet chart with ranges / linear gauge

Hi  @joyhackett ,

Power BI’s built-in bar chart does not directly allow you to adjust the size of reference line labels without affecting the bar size. But you can consider creating or using custom visuals. Custom visuals allow you to tailor your visualizations beyond the standard options.

  • Step 1: Add Formatting Options to a Custom Visual:

    • Start by adding formatting properties to your custom visual.
    • You’ll need to modify the file(capabilities.json) and define the desired formatting options.
  • Step 2: Implement Custom Formatting Logic:

    • In your custom visual code, implement the logic to handle the formatting options.
    • For instance, you can set a minimum and maximum thickness for the circle outline based on user input
  • Step 3: Package and Import:

    • Once your custom visual is ready, package it and import it into Power BI Desktop or Service.
    • Now you’ll have more control over formatting, including reference line label size.
