Applying a filter in Power BI

Hi all,

I am fairly new to Power BI and am also managing someone who is using it. We are looking to create a visual dashboard as an output with a range of KPIs at the top. Currently there is a filter which runs through the dashboard and applies to everything except one KPI which is a specific number. The number in question comes from another sheet within the workbook (budget). I wanted to ask, is it possible to link that same filter to the budget number or is this not possible because it is on a different sheet? Note, the budget is calculation driven and not from the source of data where the rest of the 'live' KPIs come from.

Please let me know if this is possible. Looking forward to discuss.

@jstar1234554321 I don't see any data.

I sent a link to a workbook? Book

@jstar1234554321 You can always create dummy data to explain the problem, without data sometimes it is hard to interpret. Not asking for real data.

This is my dummy data. The KPIs link per category. I want to find a way to link the filter to the category and the budget.

I can go into more detail if required.

Did my dummy data come through as a link?

Book

This is a link to some very basic dummy data which I copied and pasted multiple times. Effectively in my dashboard, I have a list of KPIs on top one of which is the budget from the first sheet. The second is a change in value of the option (column B vs column H). and then a range of bar charts etc. At the bottom, I have a table which has used a sumif function to calculate the current value whilst also taking the budget from the budget tab. I wat to include a dropdown which will basically allow me to also filter the budget data based on category.

Unfortunately is not one I can share. But I can only explain it.

@jstar1234554321 I think it will be easier if you share sample data, your model, and what you are trying to achieve. It is hard to interpret what you are seeing and what is missing.

Thanks. So in one sheet I have a long list of things identified which is pulling into the rest of the things in the KPIs with values etc. In the case of the budget, this is in a separate sheet, and not something we would have on a line by line basis for the final tab. I am not sure what would be the best way to create a common dimension/table for them?

@jstar1234554321 if you have a common dimension/table which is linked to both the tables from where you are pulling the KPI data then you will able to filter the data from the multiple sheet. It all boils down to learn data modeling and then it is pretty straightforward.
