Applying RLS using nested Lookup

Hello Community,

I am facing a problem when trying to apply RLS on my Model.

This is how my model looks:

I am currently attempting to implement the RLS filter using the 'UserLocation' field found in 'Fact_Table 4'. From my understanding, the following steps should be followed:

  1. Apply a LOOKUP function using the USERPRINCIPALNAME() from DIM_Table 1 to retrieve the UserLocation from FACT_Table 2.
  2. Use another Lookup to fetch the Location value from FACT_Table 4.

I am uncertain whether this approach is feasible and would appreciate guidance on how to proceed.

Please inform me if there is any additional information I can provide.

Thank you for your assistance in advance!

PS: I am implementing this on Azure Analysis Services, but I think there isn't much difference compared to RLS in Power BI.

this will only work if you "apply security filters in both directions". General guidance is to apply RLS to the outermost dimension tables in your star/snowflake schema, not to the fact tables.

Thank you for the response.

Yes, I have already applied "apply security filters in both directions". I was just hoping I could apply the RLS based on nested lookup.
Other way will be to enable two way filter from 'Fact_Table 2' to 'Dim_Table 3' and then apply security filter. But I can not really enable this as microsoft only allows one relationship per table with this setting.
