Apparently Decimal columns do not act as numbers on visuals

Looking for help!

I have a decimal column, and when to use it (as a number) on a visual, it pretends to be a non numeric column 🙂 , and of course I cannot even drop in a value well.

Any idea?

Please and thank you!

1 ACCEPTED SOLUTION

lomyk,

Ah I see, your issue is you can't use the field in an implicit measure. It is still a number; it just won't aggregate automatically when you try.

Check and see if implicit measures are discouraged in your pbix.

P.S.: Implicit measures are not a best practice anyway. You are better off creating a measure that is equal to SUM ( 'Dim_<CustomFields>'[Contracted Area] ). 🙂

Hi lomyk,

Can you please better explain what you are expecting to see? I'm not following on what the issue is.

Thank you for trying to help me.

I expect to be able to use Contracted Area column in a visual, for ex: a card visual. For me, looks like is correctly formated, as a decimal number (see above screenshot), but in the Data pane you can see that this Contracted Area column does not have the sum symbol in front, what makes me feel that this column is not seen/treated as a decimal/number data type. When I try to use it in a card visual, doesn't let me bring the column to the Value well of the card visual.

As a test, I exported that single table as  csv file, then I used it as a datasource for a test pbix. Now I have no issue creating a card visual or any other visuals with this Contracted Area column, and yes -  it has the sum symbol in front :).

Below screenshot is from my test pbix

Question is: why in my real (above) example, when I foramted the Contracted Area column, exactly the same as in below test, I cannot drag the Contracted Area in a Card visual, and the column name does not have the sum Symbol in front.

Thank you so much
