Hi,
I am getting the amiguity error below if I try to make the relationship between drivers and cars active. I want both filter paths to work like an AND statement on the Cars table. Only if both filter paths filter a row in Cars, should it be displayed in a visualisation. I'm surprised Power BI doesn't do this by default and I am struggling to see why this isn't a bug. Please could you tell me how to get around this problem? I've uploaded the test file here: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/zezhewvnekfe1bjduzdg9/2025-06-14-Ambiguous-filter-test.pbix?rlkey=b6m...
Many thanks,
PW

Thank you all, I appreciate the ideal answer is to rebuild the backend but this is an minor edit on a large legacy product therefore I won't be able to achieve an acceptable ROI on a rebuild. In the end I achieved the desired result by using the "IN VALUES" functions within a CALCULATE function. I'll mark this as the answer as it did achieve the desired result within the limited context of not rebuilding the backend.
So let me get this right ....
you ask a question and got 2 correct answers from me and dan to that question.
Then you comeback with with a different question and award the solution to yourself !
It would be polite to accept the solutions to the question you asked .... epescially if you may need more help in future 😀😀😀 😀😀

Hi @speedramps,
I'm glad you were able to solve your issue. As you mentioned you achieved the desired result by using the "IN VALUES" functions inside CALCULATE function, can you kindly mark the helpful reply as solution so that other community members having similar issue can get the solution quickly.
Best Regards,
Hammad.
Hi @PowerWhy,
Thanks for reaching out to the Microsoft fabric community forum.
It looks like while creating relationships you are getting ambiguity errors. As @danextian and @speedramps both responded to your issue, kindly go through their responses and check if your issue is resolved.
I would also take a moment to thank @danextian and @speedramps for actively participating in the community forum and for the solutions you’ve been sharing in the community forum. Your contributions make a real difference.
If I misunderstand your needs or you still have problems on it, please feel free to let us know.
Best Regards,
Hammad.

Hi @PowerWhy
If you activate that relationship, it will create ambiguity because there will be two active paths connecting Gender to Cars:
When both paths are active, Power BI won’t know which one to use for filtering or calculations, which can cause confusion and lead to incorrect results.
You have circulare data model which will cause ambiguity.
You are clearly a noviice and need to learn about "data modelling" and "start schemas"
These are vital if you are to progess with Power BI
Learn how here https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/guidance/star-schema
This is your circulare reference
This a start scheam with Dim Car and Gim Genear table
that you can use to slice Cidrives and Drivers
Please clcik the thumbs up and accept solution buttons. Thank you
I want to help you more but your description is too vague. Please write it again.= and considetr doing some basic POower BI training first here. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/training/modules/get-started-with-power-bi/
You will get a quicker and better response without misunderstandings if you put time and effort into carefully writing a clear problem description with example input and output data. Look forward to helping you when this information is forthcoming
* Please DON'T copy & paste your relationships and DAX that does not work and expect us to fathom what you want. (That is just crazy).
* Please DO give a simple non-technical functional description of what you want
* Keep it simple and break large projects into smaller questions and ask just one question per ticket.
* Rename columns to user friendly names. Avoid your own system jargon that we may not understand.
* Most importantly please provide example input data as table text (not a screen print) so helpers can import the data to build a solution for you. (Learn how to share data below)
* Provide the example desired output, with a clear step-by-step description of calculations and the process flow.
* Take time and care to use the same table and field names in the input, output and description so we can understand your problem and help you.
* Remove any unneeded tables, rows or columns which may cause confusion. Keep it short and concise with the minimal information regarding the key problem.
* Remember not to share private data ... we don't want you to get into trouble.
* Please click the thumbs up button for these helpful hints and tips. Thank you.
