Hi all,
I'm trying to use the new aggregations feature with composite models. My data model contains data from multiple sources (we don't have a central data warehouse unfortunately).
Is it possible to use aggregations when the data comes from different sources? I have tried but I can't seem to get my queries to hit the aggregation table when filtering on an imported table from a different source.
Regards
Mike
Solved! Go to Solution.
@Anonymous ,
In power bi desktop, you can import multiple data source and then merge/append the imported tables. In power bi service, you can pin visuals from different report/data source in the same dashboard.

It doesn't seem like your question was ever solved. If you have multiple datasources, you need the groupby clause to make aggregations work. Not sure the 'solution' solved this issue. Care to elaborate?
@Anonymous ,
You can click query editor-> Combine Files to combine different data source tables.

Hi, Thanks but I don't think this answers my question. My question was about using the new aggregations feature with data from different sources (different SQL server databases, dataflows etc).
Thanks
Mike

Hi,
Apologies for the late response but I have been on annual leave.
This isn't a solution. I know how to combine data from multiple sources. My question is around the new aggregations feature described here (https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/desktop-aggregations) and making this work with multiple data sources (i.e. dataflow, on prem SQL database, cloud AWS etc). I can't get it to work and I think it is something to do with the strong/weak relationship section, but would be good to get some advice from someone else.
Thanks
Mike
