Trying to update a PBIRS installation from January 2026 to September 2026 and getting an error during the update. The setup log contains the following message:
Something went wrong, please find details in setup logs.CallStack:
Unhandled Exception: System.AccessViolationException: Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt.

This is occurring on more than one server. Any clues?
Hi mjbernier
Did you shut down PBIRS services before installing the new version?

No. We've never had to stop the service on the server before installing an update... and we've been using PBIRS since 2019.
I rebooted one of the servers and ran the installer again - this time it wanted to repair the instance. I let it finish and now it's working. I guess we get to add that step to our upgrade process now...
