In my Power BI Report, my dataset is coming from 2 different data source, OneDrive & SQL Analysis Services. In schedule refresh, how can I refresh these 2 data data source independently, so that even if Analysis Services fails, OneDrive Data can get refreshed

@Anonymous - as you've discovered, refresh is all or nothing. You cannot have different sources refreshed on different schedules, and when one source fails, the entire refresh is halted.

DAX is for Analysis. Power Query is for Data Modeling

Hi @Anonymous ,

I found no solution to refresh data source independently in one dataset. Once there is a problem with one of the data sources, the refresh will fail and none of the data sources will be refreshed.

As a workaround, I suggest you use Composite mode in your dataset. Composite mode can mix Import and DirectQuery modes, or integrate multiple DirectQuery data sources. For more details, please refer to https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/connect-data/service-dataset-modes-understand

@v-deddai1-msftThanks for reply, it has helped me to a new perspective for this issue.

I have read the article, from the article I came to understand that to create a composite model, direct query is required. Now, the issue is that for connecting to SQL Analysis Services, I have to use SQL Server Analysis Services database connector of Power BI Dekstop, which only have Import or Connect Live, connection options, how can I use direct query using this connector

Hi @Anonymous ,

Unfortunately, SSAS does not support DQ mode, as edhans said, You cannot have different sources refreshed on different schedules, and when one source fails, the entire refresh is halted. I can't think of anything other than putting these two data sources in different datasets.

@Anonymous I'm not sure there is a way to do that, @ImkeF @edhans ?
