"Permission required" to access dashboard error, but permission is granted

After sharing a dashboard and dataset some people who are listed in the permissions pane are still getting a "Permission required" error. Their name is listed in the dashboard and dataset access page. Any idea how to solve this ?

Error: Permission Required - You cannot see the content of this report because you do not have permissions to the underlying dataset. Please contact report owner for details.

1 ACCEPTED SOLUTION

After removing the users from the dataset permissions and dashboard, and sharing it again from the dahboard UI, the users now have access.

The stated solutions didn't work in my case. The affected user couldn't also create reports using the dataset in the workspace. This produced a more detailed error:

"Cannot load model - Couldn't load the model schema associated with this report. Make sure you have a connection to the server, and try again. Please try again later or contact support. If you contact support, please provide these details." It also provided Activity ID, Request ID, Correlation ID, Time, Service Version, Client version and Cluster URI.

I opened a ticket at Microsoft and with the provided error message above they were able to identify and fix the issue.

Hello,

My colleagues are experiencing the same error, I have updated dataseta and report access but still the same error.
I am on Pro license but they are on Free license, does this affect the error?

Thanks for your help!

Dear All,
I have the same issue.
I am not sure if the free user could view the report without buying the Power BI Pro.
For the content designer, they already have the Power BI Pro License.
Your answer is valuable for me.
Thank in advance

Hi there, when you say you shared the dataset with some people how did you do this?

Went to the share button in the dashboard and added them. Also went to the dataset

When I now go to the Access tab (in the share pane of the dashboard) I can see the users and DL's there. They are also in the "Manage Permissions" page (check image below)

Are there any roles in the dataset?

What if ( I set some roles ) ... ?

No Roles (per image below).

FYI, The dataset connected to an Azure Table.

What security is being applied on the Azure Table?

No, all inside a corporate domain.

After removing the users from the dataset permissions and dashboard, and sharing it again from the dahboard UI, the users now have access.

go to the specific Power BI dataset, click "Manage permissions" > "Add user"

certainly solves the issue but this bug should be addressed by Microsoft.
