query powerbi dataset in service

Hi,

I would like to know if its possible to query a PBI data model which resides in the premium workspace. If so,pls let me know how it could be done either programatically,SSIS or any other tool.I want to query the model and extract the a dataset/rawdata upon which i would do some transformation.

So far  no luck finding this online..Long back MS confirmed it feature not available with SSIS.

DaxStudio should give you the functionality you need - https://daxstudio.org/

Tabular editor may also be useful -https://tabulareditor.com/

Edit: Useful info here - https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/admin/service-premium-connect-tools

Both of these tools will appear under the external tools tab in PowerBI once installed but can be used independently

I would like to automate the extraction and load data in SQL db.I am not sure if can be done with DAx studio or tabular

Check out the link I added in the edit, the XMLA endpoint is the most likely solution.

How is your data getting into PowerBI? It may be easier to plug into that process rather than try to extract from the model

The analytics team has actually built their own data model with cube as the source and transformation/calculation.I dont want to reproduce those and just be able to extract the rawdata that i want by issuing the query against their model.

Currently,i am already re doing what they have done by fetching the data from the cube using SSIS and running jobs to automate the extraction. Then i do the transformation in the SQL layer and produce the results.I want to get rid of the reproducing part and be able to directly do the reporting part.

Sounds like its quite complex, are you able to work with the other team to build common dataflows/ data models that could act as a single source of the truth?

One other option may be the new composite models, you could incorporate their model into your own - https://www.sqlbi.com/articles/new-composite-models-in-power-bi-a-milestone-in-business-intelligence...

Requirement is such that there is a need for me to showcase the data a bit differently at my end .I would like to use their data model as the source of truth for the part i am handling 😞
