extract data from excel worksheets saved in MS Teams and load on BI dashboard

Hi,

we have a group in MS Teams and our individual data (excel tables) are organized in Files accessible for all the group.

The excel tables are updated every day.

I want to extract the data from these excel tables in Teams files, combine them using queries and load on the Power BI dashboard.

Is it possible? How?

Thank you …

Hi, @Testii

Yes, it is possible to extract data from Excel tables in Teams files, combine them using queries, and load them onto a Power BI dashboard. Here are the general steps to follow:

  1. Connect to the Excel files in Teams using Power Query. In Power BI Desktop, go to the Home tab, select Get Data, and choose Excel. From there, select the option to connect to a folder, and enter the URL of the folder where the Excel files are stored.

  2. Combine the data from the Excel files using Power Query. In Power Query, you can use the Combine Files option to combine the data from multiple Excel files into a single table. You can also use the Append Queries option to append data from multiple tables.

  3. Transform and clean the data as needed using Power Query. You can use Power Query to filter, sort, and transform the data as needed to prepare it for use in your dashboard.

  4. Load the data into Power BI Desktop. Once you have transformed and cleaned the data, you can load it into Power BI Desktop by selecting the Close & Apply button in the Power Query Editor.

  5. Create your dashboard. With the data loaded into Power BI Desktop, you can create your dashboard by adding visualizations, slicers, and other elements as needed.

  6. Publish your dashboard to Power BI Service. Once you have created your dashboard in Power BI Desktop, you can publish it to Power BI Service to share it with others.
