data source credentials for a folder

A simple, probably stupid, question.

I'm adding a data source, in this case a simple folder.

My question is - what UserName and password do I need to enter?

Is it my windows login, ( or do I need administrator login) or is it my PowerBI login?

None of above seems to work!

Thank you

Hi,

Did you manage to solve this? I have the same problem.

Thanks in advance,

Claudia

Hi there

It should be a domain account that has got access to that folder.

For example:
UserName: MyDomain\UserAccount
Passsword: mypassword

I would recommend creating an account where the password does not expire like a System account and then assign it permissions to that folder.
And you can then use this account in the Gateway for your folder.

Hi Gilbert

Many thanks for your reply.

I think I have adhered to the rules for User Name and Password as advised in your message.

I suspect that it may have something to do with the fact that I do not have admin rights?

But bottom line, you are saying that there is no reason why I can't configure a gateway data source for a file that resides on a standard network drive?.

Regards

Joe
