data model limit?

Hi

my data model size is 1.8 GB, I saw the size in dax studio and I'm using power bi service with PRO licensing

with my model size I should not be able to publish my report into power bi service

but I'm able to publish & refresh it without any issues or errors

is there anything I'm missing?

I have seen the same question by some focks here but they also didn't get their answer

please help us to know what's the reason behind this exception or is there any misunderstanding on our side?

Hi @pratyashasamal

we use PRO I checked it & we used import mode to load our data into power bi

so obviously it should show shown error right?

but it is not showing any error

why is it?

my data model size is exactly 1.79 GB when I checked in Dax Studio so with the import mode & PRO licensing

I should have received error message on data limit when I refresh or publish

but I never seen any error message, refresh & publish are proccesssing successfully

I'm not the first one, someone also raised this issue in 2021 but he didn't receive any answer

please help me to understand this

this is really confusing

Hi @newbie_powerbi ,
There's a 1-GB limit per dataset that is imported into Power BI, unless the workspace is in a Power BI Premium capacity.

in Pro licensing the data model size limit is 1 GB

the data model size limit for PPU is 100 GB, you have to enable "Large dataset storage format"

pratyashasamal_0-1685698163370.png

The dataset size limit for the different flavors of Premium Per Capacity ( P[x]/A[x]/EM[x] ) can be found here: What is Power BI Premium Gen2? - Power BI | Microsoft Docs

The dataset size can be extended to the available memory of the above capacities by using the "Large dataset storage format", meaning, the dataset size can be extended from 3GB to 25GB (P1).
I would never do that as this does not leave RAM for queries created when user are using the Power BI reports.

Nevertheless, there is another limiting factor that can not be changed, this factor is the size of the PBIX that is used to publilsh data, this file size can not be larger than 10GB.
