azure active directory for power bi

Hi, I would like to know , for power BI security do we need azure active directory services for an organization. usually companies use Microsoft active directory but no azure active directory. is it a mandatory requiremnt to have the organization on azure active directory ? do we need to take licence for azure active directory ? can we migrate teh data from microsoft active directory to azure active directory. I have no idea about this. could you please help me to unerstand. Thanks in advance. Regards, Rahul

Yes, for Power BI Governance and Security you need azure active directory. Infact, Power BI only works with Azure AD. Azure AD account will be created when you sign up for Power BI. And yes, you can sync your on premise AD to Azure AD.

Regarding the licensing, while the Free version provides facilities to manage groups/users and SSO, for more advanced features you need to purchase license for higher editions.
