Hi,
I'm trying to set up a translytical task flow.
Therefore I've created a UDF and a Fabric SQL Database. I've added the table I need from that database to my Power BI Datamodel via OneLake catalogue --> SQL database (preview). So far so good.
When I publish the datamodel to the service I get an error for the Data source credentials. I try "Edit credentials" and use OAuth2 for Authentication method and different Privacy level settings. Everytime I get the error "You need to use SSL (HTTPS) when you use OAuth 2.0 authentication.
What am I doing wrong?
Best regards, Carlos
Hi @VaVi
The error you're encountering—“You need to use SSL (HTTPS) when you use OAuth 2.0 authentication”—occurs because the Power BI Service requires secure (SSL-encrypted) connections when authenticating via OAuth 2.0, especially for cloud-based data sources like Fabric SQL Databases accessed through the OneLake data hub. Although everything works in Power BI Desktop, the service enforces stricter security standards. The issue likely stems from the connection string or endpoint used in the OneLake Catalog connector not being HTTPS-compliant by default in the preview feature. To resolve this, ensure that your Fabric SQL Database is publicly accessible via an HTTPS endpoint and that the connection in Power BI explicitly targets the secure URL. Since the SQL Database (preview) connector is still evolving, it might not fully support OAuth2 via HTTPS in the service yet. As a workaround, try accessing the same data using the standard Fabric items > Lakehouse or Warehouse connector (which uses HTTPS) instead of the SQL Database (preview) route. Additionally, check the workspace settings and ensure your tenant allows SSL connections and that the data source configuration uses the correct HTTPS endpoint. If this doesn’t help, it's advisable to monitor Microsoft Fabric documentation for updates or raise a support ticket, as this could be a limitation or misbehavior in the current preview release.
