We are currently testing if it is possible to migrate our on premise tabular models to a Power BI Premium dataset from Visual Studio as documented in the link above. I understand that the compatibility level of the tabular model needs to be 'SQL Server 2019 / Azure Analysis Services (1500)' however when I upgrade an existing model (2016 compatibility) and try link it to a data source on our Power BI gateway the option is not there. Creating a new tabular model and deploying to the workspace works fine! I compared the tabular model data sources from the code in VS and was able to amend the existing model to match the new one however each of table queries in the code are constructed differently. Has anyone else encountered this issue or have any suggestions. I really don't fancy rebuilding this particular model from a blank solution. Thanks, JW

Hi @Anonymous
As far as I know there is a big difference from SSAS 2016 to SSAS 2019 due to the meta data changes.
What I have done in the past is to create a new model and then copy and paste the queries, etc and script out as much as I can.
Thanks for the message @GilbertQ It looks like we will be recreating the model on the required compatibility. One further issue we have discovered is the lack of Object level security even after coming out of preview which fixed the deployment of roles from Visual Studio. Object level security is a must as we use it extensively. This link from Dec 2019 https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/power-bi-premium-and-azure-analysis-services/ does say 'No Yet'. I would have thought this was priority for most organisations. This additional feature would make a XMLA R/W a really good option.
Hi @Anonymous
OLS is not currently avaiable in Power BI Premuim hopefully it will be there soon!
Looks like OLS is here for XMLA R/W models on Power BI Premium 😀 https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/object-level-security-ols-now-available-for-public-preview-...
