Hi,
Our requirement: Give 5 power users access to DATASET(because users dont know data modelling) to create their own reports .
for above requirement, we have created a workspace and added 5 users as members (members who can edit - so that they can create repors).
Problem: User can delete the reports saved by other users in the workspace.
Can we restrict this?
if not, could you please share alternate solution.
Thanks
@revansh There are no user specific permissions. Just the group, so you can't restrict this.
Depending on the business case, you could create an individual workspace for each user if that makes sense (different business units), this allows you to have an "admin" account manage the spaces if the Power Users leave or more need to be added. I assume all this is because these users will be sharing content throughout the company.
Otherwise you could just create naming rules for each user. "name_" is the begining of each report/dashboard. This would make more sense for business units "Sales_Monthly Report" for example. Then each user should know what they can/can't modify.
Also, have them save all the Power BI reports to the group folder in OneDrive, then if something is deleted by accident, you could restore it easily from the single location.
@Seth_C_Bauer In my organziation Power Bi Admin left the company? Now, I want to delete his app workspaces he created. How can it be possible through Office 365 Global Admin? or is there any otehr way to delete former Power Bi admin content he published in Power Bi Service?
Hi Eno1978,
Thanks for the reply.
We thought about the other solution you explained. Creating separate workspace for each user. There are chances of this user group to go upto 20-25. everytime if there is any change in PBIX , we have to export it to 20-25 different workspaces. is there any way we keep a master pbix file on app.powerbi.com and refrence it in the workspaces?
Thanks again.
@revansh ah... This is where SSAS Tabular really comes in handy. One model = same dataset in all workspaces... Is that route an option? Otherwise, I would for sure plan out how to scale and support before doing anything because management of a solution only using the Desktop files would be tedious...
