Using user data for filtering

Hi everyone,

I am rather new to PowerBi.

Here is my use case: I have an Excel spreadsheet with different tabs as data source.

The data contain activities on sales opportunities - one field is "assigned to".

I would like to make dashboards/reports available to individuals that I filter on a report level against the "against to" field based on the user login.

While I have seen forum threads on SSAS and security using online sources, I lack anything on "offline" data sources.

Is there any way to access the user data (eg. login name) inside PowerBI and use this for filtering?

Thanks,

     Holger

In powerbi service what you want to consider is Row Level Security. It lets you filter your dataset based on roles that you create and you can assign individual users to those roles. For more info check out blog post on Row Level Security.
