We are using a data gateway succesfully with numerous powerbi reports.
The same connections as defined in the data gateway are being used in Excel files, so users can
explore the on-premise tabular models in an ad-hoc fashion.
When uploading the excel files in the workbook section, the excel files open and show data.
But the filters do not work reporting connectivity problems while the connection connects to pre-defined sources in the gateway.
When starting the excel files from within desktop excel it does work. But we want to publish them via a workspace.
How can you make the data gateway connections work for your excel?
HI, @Anonymous
If uploading the excel files in the workbook section,
When the excel is on one drive, It will keep the connection to excel

Thank you . i comment in the name of joko2008.
but this will not work for regular users in our organization as it points to another network (we have to use the excels in a RDP session which is not for end users), and the trick we want is to use powerbi which has been given access to that other network. So we do not need to confont end-users with RDP sessions, but let them use the powerbi webbrowser. But this is only possible if the excel-sheets are capable of using the defined gateways.
