Usage Metrics Report - no "Data View" or "Transform Data" available in Power BI Desktop

Hi!

I am connecting to "Report Usage Metrics Model" from Power BI Desktop. It connects and opens, but there is neither "Data View" on left pannel nor Power Quiery Editor available there.

I can see the data only at "Report View" if I create visualizations. No data transformations are available.

Should it be like this? Or how to activate this things?

Thank you in advance!

Hi @MissM ,

After you connect to the Power BI datasets in Desktop, you can see a line in the lower right corner  like this:

Not only the usage metrics report, all the report you connected to the Power BI datasets will get the same result: Power Quiery Editor and "Data View" are not available. Because Power BI Desktop connect to datasets in live connection mode, and this is the feature of live connection mode.

Hey MissM,

Yup, that is common as you are "querying" dataset in the Power BI Service. You will not be able to see the transformation nor data view.

You can see data view and get access to Power Query transformation if you import data in Power BI desktop (or download the pbix of an existing report in a workspace*). Now you are just connected to existing (transformed, modelled, and ready for consumption) dataset.

*not for reports that are generated by Power BI service i.e Usage report
