Tooltip working differently in Desktop vs Service

Hi all,

I have a line chart visual with multiple lines on it, and I have created a custom tooltip that shows a matrix, with the rows having the names of each line, and their being two columns, one for the value of the line at the selected point, and one for the cumulative value of the line.

The line chart looks like this:

conditional_scenario_V1.PNG

It has actual revenue data in a dotted black line, and then potential revenue forecasts under certain assumptions in shades of red and blue. The data is plotted quarterly (3/31, 6/30, 9/31, and 12/31 of each year).

In desktop, the tooltip will show up for all of the points in the line chart. If I was to hover over Jan 2024, the tooltip would still have a row for "Actuals", it's just that the Current column would be blank and the Cumulative column would have the cumulative version displayed. That's fine with me.

However, after I publish to service, things start to go wrong. When I hover over Jan 2024, nothing shows up. I have to hover over a time period in which there are Current Actuals, otherwise nothing will show up. So, I only get a tooltip from Jan 2022 to Jul 2022.

Additioanlly, if I de-select "Actuals" and no longer have it on the line chart, then the tooltip shows up for all of the x-axis time periods of the chart.

Does anyone know why this has happening? The fact that it works on the Desktop makes it very difficult to de-bug. Would appreciate any advice on the issue. Thank you!

Hi @Anonymous

Can you confirm that you have the latest version of PBI Desktop installed?

The reason that I ask is because sometimes there are differences over time.

With that being said I have always had it working the same in desktop as on the service. Can you confirm that you have clicked on the reset to default button to ensure that there are no other filters causing an issue?

Hi @GilbertQ, thanks for the reply! I checked and I am using the February 2023 version of desktop. No changing that, as it's set by my org. Additionally, I can confirm that I've clicked the green reset button to reset all filters, etc. to default, just as they were when I published.

Hi @Anonymous

I have seen some other people also having an issue with tooltips not working as expected. It could be a bug that should be quickly resolved.
